Living in an ever-increasingly technological world, many of us underestimate the advantages face-to-face communication breeds: it helps in building stronger relationships, whilst raising credibility between the two parties. It provides us with something that won’t get lost or misplaced, like e-mails or missed, like phone calls.
At times, non-verbal communication – body language and facial expressions – tend to be more important than the reception of the verbal message itself. A simple and firm hand shake could show the person you’re meeting with that you mean business, in turn showing that you should be taken seriously. Such gestures cannot be transmitted when using written means of communication.
The virtual medium closest to face-to-face communication would be video conferencing. This medium allows one the use of almost every form of verbal and non-verbal communication, except direct, physical contact.
Without a doubt, face-to-face meetings remain the best way through which one can clearly communicate their message.
